About Me/ Company

Hi my name is Mel.
My dog walking and small animal care business is all new to me.
After spending many years working as a nurse then a nursing and therapy assistant at my local Hospice, I had the opportunity to do something different that involved caring, but instead of it being with people, this time it’s with our beloved fur babies!
I am extremely passionate about animal care and being an advocate for our special friends.
I walk daily with my own delightful whippet called Squid. She is a well behaved, gentle girl. She is very fond of playing and being chased. Because she is gentle, she will make a great companion for a dog who is anxious or a lockdown puppy.

Previous Experience

For many years our family have been surrounded by an assortment of pets. When I became a mother, I felt having pets was a vital part of our family life. I think a child can learn a lot from caring and having the responsibility of looking after and loving an animal.
My experience includes:
20 years as an NHS nurse.
13 years as a hospice nurse and therapy assistant. I also ran support groups for people with breathing difficulties, weekly mindful movement workshops and open house sessions.
Over the past 4 years I have been walking a very naughty Beagle - there is always a story to be told!
Having a dog camp at my home whilst their owners are away.
Cat feeding, grooming and playing.
Puppy Pop In’s - to let them out for a toilet break and have a little play.
Fish and bird feeding.

Qualifications & Training

I have no formal animal care qualification but I do have a love for animals and a lot of common sense.
Attended months of dog training and socialisation classes at a local vets.
Volunteer worker for the RSPCA at a local shop.
Volunteer seal warden for Friends of Horsey Seals.
Completed the IOA online course in Pet First Aid and CPR
I have a basic DBS check.

Relevant Info

I am a friendly, happy person, who loves walking, spending time with animals and the great outdoors. You will find me to be honest, genuine and easy going, and I will look after your pets like they were my own.
I have just been called up to have my COVID vaccination and will do everything to keep myself and others safe.
