About Me/ Company

My name is Sharn , I am 19 years old and I am looking for a part time job to gain further experience working with animals.
I am currently studying Criminology at University where by at the end of my three years I’d hopefully have a degree, where then I can start looking into getting my dream job that being at RSPCA or being a Police dog handler. I’ve always loved being around animals and the thought of working with them has always been a true passion of mine.

Previous Experience

I have always grown up with pets around me, where I have cared for a variety of breeds ranging from Newfoundland’s and Alsatians to my two current Cocker Spaniels, one in which we weren’t meant to have however unfortunately we found out that she had been abused and just used for breeding by her original owner so it was a no brainer, we had to take her home and give her a brand new life.
I have also pet sat relatives animals, that being my Grandmas 11 cockapoos where I have stayed at her home on multiple occasions whilst she’s been away. Ive also cared for my step grandmas Rottweiler and my cousins two Siamese cats in the past, however still currently look after my boyfriends Labrador and cockapoo whilst his parents have long shifts at work.
My auntie also breeds English bulldogs and I have been hands on helping her with the newborns and the mother.
I have also been going abroad to Cyprus for many years as it’s a family favourite destination. Cyprus is renowned for overpopulated stray cats so me, my mum and my eldest sister would actually rescue the cats who were in an awful condition and take them to the local rescue centre.

I have also worked at a local kennels/cattery for a couple of months, there id: Walk the dogs three times a day (Morning, afternoon and evening),
Feed the dogs and cats according to their dietary requirements (some animals required medication within their food),
Clean out the Kennels; by filling their bowls with fresh water, and a fresh litter tray for the cats, mop the floors, wash the walls and apply fresh bedding.
Finally, spend quality time getting to know the animals by playing with toys, brushing them etc.

I have also recently took part in volunteering at a new local kennels/cattery along, by cleaning out everything in the shelter to get it ready for the animals.
They are also taking on more volunteers in January as that’s when the animals will be arriving, to help out, which I have applied for.

I am also currently completing a pet sitting and dog walking diploma course which involves an exam. Once I’ve finished the course, I will then receive a certificate.

My job at my local cafe is completely different to wanting to work with animals. However there, I have demonstrated qualities and work within a fast pace environment which will benefit me in every job such as patience, commitment, organisational skills, hard work and motivation to do well. This further enhanced my communication skills and the ability to converse with both adults and children in order to perform well.
