My name is Ruth, I'm 18 years old and, as an owner of three beautiful dogs, it is safe to say that I absolutely love caring for the canine creatures!
I live in Staffordshire and am able to travel within 10 miles of Cannock.

I enjoy caring for my pets, regularly taking my dog for walks, playing with my chinchillas, and looking after my six cats. On several occasions my family and I have rescued injured animals, and I often visit my aunt who manages an RSPCA ferret rescue centre.

Through interactions with both people and animals I have developed a strong sense of responsibility, caring and probity. These are skills and characteristics that I have utilised effectively in my work experience placements, and will continue to seek out opportunities for such interactions to allow me to develop these further.

Academically, my experience of psychology throughout my AS level studies has piqued my interest in this subject. I’ve spent time investigating areas of psychology outside the curriculum, including animal psychology and alternative therapies such as animal-assisted therapy.

Previous Experience

I have previously attended work experience at West Midlands Safari Park, some of the duties I carried out include:
- Worked in teams and coordinated with team-members to ensure customer safety
- Cleaning and maintenance of large animal habitats
- Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of animals, including young, vulnerable animals
- Regular checks to ensure that the habitats were secure and did not include any objects or plants that could harm the animals
- Took part in regular patrols with other staff
- Gained knowledge and appreciation of the importance and details of health and safety regulations

I also spend a 2 week work placement at Rodbaston College Animal Centre, my duties included:
- Cleaning responsibilities in Staff zones
- Cleaning and restocking of animal zones
- Responsibility for feeding animals and ensuring their wellbeing and safety of their environment
- Management of stocking to ensure minimal cross-contamination
