About Me/ Company
Hello, my name is Michelle, my business Paws 'n' Go is based in Southend on Sea Essex, I offer a wide range of services which include Dog walking, Licensed home boarding for dogs and small furries, Pet sitting and pop in service, and Pet taxi. I grew up with animals from a very young age, which means I have a lifetime experience of caring for them. Currently living with me at home is my best friend Molly, who is a 22 month old Yorkshire Terrier, my 14 year old cat named Poppy, George my 10 year old Harlequin Cross Rabbit and last but not least are my girls, the 7 hens. I live a walking distance of 2 minutes from a park and a 10 minute drive to a beautiful country park. When I was 17 I worked at Leigh Pet Centre, in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. My duties included feeding and watering the pets; cleaning out the enclosures; providing enrichments to stimulate mental well being, and regular health checks. From there, I was introduced to an orange winged amazon parrot that a customer sold us. I formed a strong relationship with him, named him Perkins, and I took him into my own care where he lived as family member to a ripe old age.
Customers became well acquainted with me and knew how passionate I was about animals, and I began to get requests to look after their dogs whilst they took vacations. These included a Springer Spaniel; Bull Dog, and two Old English Sheepdogs. In 1998, I took a career break until 2007 to raise my family. I then decided to enrol at Writtle College to study Animal Care at Level 3 (ANC).
Previous Experience
Whilst at college I carried out work experience within the animal care unit. My work involved maintaining the health and welfare of a variety of animals which included birds; rabbits; small rodents; ponies; goats; ducks; geese and chickens. Additional work involved caring for farm animals, including pigs; cows, and sheep. I also took time to cover the lambing period which was great fun. Having completed the course, and gaining several distinctions, I was awarded a Scholarship which I used to further my education at degree level. Further work experience was gained working with sick and injured wildlife at the South East Essex Wildlife Hospital in Orsett. I gained a further 9 months of work experience at a local vets practice, Medivets, where I assisted in nursing and caring for sick animals. In 2011, a friend of mine who worked at Medivets and Pets in Partnership called and asked if I could dress up as Scooby Doo for a local event in Essex, as the person who was to originally play the role had become sick. The purpose for this exercise was for teaching youngsters about how to be safe and sound around dogs. Pets in Partnership is a training school for both handlers and dogs. It caters for most needs, such as Pet Dog Classes, Obdience, Agility, Heelwork to Music, and much more. From there I volunteered and continue to work on a voluntary basis assisting the team, as training dogs has been a long term interest of mine. Since then, I have trained my own puppy Molly, who is now 22 months old. Further training has resulted in us gaining a bronze and silver medal through the Kennel Clubs Good Citizen Dog Scheme, which promotes responsible dog ownership. Both Molly and I are currently working towards the gold medal.
