About Me/ Company
I have been a teacher for the majority of my career and more recently I have been working in the field of mental health. I am now semi-retired and looking to work in a job that keeps me active; working with animals, especially dogs, would be ideal. I am fit and used to undertaking long walks to relax and maintain my health and well-being. My recent work in the field of mental health has reinforced the value of animals and the natural environment to maintaining good mental health. I am flexible and can work most days including weekends as required. I can start before or after xmas as required. Although I have not worked in a professional capacity with animals before I believe in the value of kindness and respect which solves most problems with either humans or animals.
Previous Experience
I have owned dogs and cats on and off for many years. Up until recently I was exercising my stepson's dog (a Chocolate Lab) when he came to stay or whilst he was working. I am not put off by bad weather - having undertaken regular fell walking in the Lake District I am used to all kinds of weather and have the necessary gear. I have my own transport and can use my car to transport animals if required.
Qualifications & Training
My professional qualifications are in teaching, social work and psychology. The latter has some bearing as a lot of the original theories were developed using animals. Thankfully the negative experiments undertaken with animals have largely stopped but the use of positive reinforcement and conditioning are well known and are especially useful in managing dog behaviour.
Relevant Info
Although it is clear that I do not have professional experience or qualifications in respect to animals I consider myself friendly and approachable to both humans and animals! This quality is something that can transmit and reassure those I encounter which I hope makes me an ideal candiadte for this kind of work.
