Previous Experience

I will cite an example or two. When I lived in Fordwich, near Canterbury, my neighbours had two German Shepherds called Honey and Emma. My neighbours asked me to call in to feed and walk the dogs while they were away. I entered the house to a positive fusillade of barking and growling. Honey, on seeing me, promptly rolled over on her back and demanded a tummy scratch, Emma, ears down, tail wagging, licked me! My neighbours today have a Rottweiler and a bull terrier, and we have never been actually introduced, but I have been licked and greeted through a gap in the fence. Yes, I have been bitten, but nothing too serious, I even made friends with a guard dog once.
