About Me/ Company

My name is Liam and my passion is animal welfare. I am currently working at my local zoo (Paradise Wildlife Park) as a volunteer zookeeper, and I really enjoy being able to spend a couple of days there a week to help out the staff and animals.

There is not an animal I do not like or fear (other than spiders maybe), but dogs are my absolute favourite. When I was just six months years old my family purchased a puppy westie named Mac. Mac was my best friend throughout my childhood, and along with him soon came Missy, our second westie dog; and lastly Maisey, our youngest four legged friend. Growing up with three westies has certainly made me the dog lover that I am today.

Now that I am a twenty-two year old man, sadly my three fury friends have passed over to a better place. Currently, me and my family do not own a dog as we have decided after 20 years of having pets in the house we are going to have a short break from the poop cleaning.

I am now studying a degree at university - Animal Science; in order to extend my knowledge and experience with the subject. Therefore on my days off I love to do some exercising, such as walking, running, cardio workouts and bike riding. Therefore with walking a dog, I get the best of both worlds!

Previous Experience

I have over three years experience working with animals. My most relevant role is at my local dog kennel - southend farm dog kennel based in Waltham Abbey Essex. I started volunteering there in 2018 to help out in any way I could. The staff there have been very kind to me over the years; they have invited me into the full experience of working within a kennel. Daily tasks include - taking our dogs for long walks, feeding, cleaning our dogs on site, creating enrichment and participating in training exercises.

As mentioned before, I volunteer as a zookeeper and have done so for over a year now. Working at the zoo is amazing and is always a treat to visit. As a zookeeper we do not spend all our time cuddling monkeys (even if we would like to). A lot of the tasks include, cleaning enclosures, poo picking, general maintenance, feeding and training of animals, food preparations and a lot of cleaning.

Qualifications & Training

3 A levels - English Literature, ICT and Biology.

11 GCSE'S

Access to HE Study skills - Health Sciences (Distinction)

Currently studying Animal Science Degree at Writtle University College.
