About Me/ Company

My name is Jade Clive, I am 20 years old and live in Stafford, close to the town centre.
I currently work as a part time cleaner in mornings and evenings during the week however I wish to continue a career with dogs. Working with dogs is a dream job for me and I would like to set up my own grooming salon at some point in the future.
I have always been passionate about animals – especially dogs! I love all dog breeds ranging from chiwawa’s to Great Danes!
I used to have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier at home – she had a wonderful temperament and I loved her to pieces! She gave birth to 10 puppies last November – so I had a fun Christmas! It was a lot of work to look after 10 puppies and the mother but I loved every minute of it! It was my first time experiencing a dog birth so beforehand I made sure I researched every last detail so I was ready for it. It was such an exciting experience when the mother was giving birth and I was so glad that all 10 puppies survived! That was the best Christmas I’ve ever had and I would be more than happy to do it all over again!

Previous Experience

Chesmere Kennels & Cattery

I have previously worked at a dog kennels for almost 2 years – it was my first ever job so this is what made my mind up about working with dogs. We used to get all sorts of different breeds in from Jack Russell’s to Dalmatians.
One dog that I remember clearly was a big, bulky bull mastiff – he had such a soft, adorable temperament! In fell in love with him the first time I worked with him!
Duties here included:
•Cleaning – Beds & bedrooms, carpets & mats, kitchens, outdoor runs, sink basins & tubs and the field outside.
•Walking dogs – this was normally done in groups. I had 2 dogs on lead and then a small group off lead at one time. This required careful concentration to make sure I knew exactly what was going on around me.
•Feeding dogs – This was done by measuring the exact amount the dog needs, softening biscuits if needed and adding the correct amount of meat if needed.
•Providing fresh water – This was done at regular intervals, especially on hot, summer days to prevent dogs becoming dehydrated.
•Health checking – At the end of each day I used to go around all dog kennels and do a overall health check on all dogs including eyes, ears, body, fur, tail etc.
•Providing heat lamps for dogs – this was normally done on cold, winter nights to make sure the dogs are kept warm throughout the night.
•Grooming & bathing dogs – I normally did this on wet, rainy days if the dogs had become dirty.
•Giving medication – I did NOT give medication to the dogs through a needle at this stage. I gave tablets within the dogs food or by placing the tablet at the back of the tongue, lifting the head up slightly, gently closing the mouth to and rubbing gently down the neck to make sure the tablet was swallowed.


The Animal Management Centre – Rodbaston, South Staffordshire College

I worked here voluntary for just over 1 year. I worked with a very wide range of animals here including Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, Rats, Parrots, Kookaburra’s, Lemurs and occasionally reptiles (snakes, frogs and lizards) I gained so much knowledge from working here as they are part of a college so it was very educational.
Duties here included:
•Feeding animals – Reading diet sheets for each specific animal, chopping & grating fruit and vegetables, measuring the amount of food, soaking and softening food if necessary and choosing the right sized bowl for each animal.
•Providing fresh water – this was done at regular intervals throughout the day to prevent dehydration and was always topped up at the end of the day before leaving.
•Cleaning enclosures – this was always done very thoroughly every day. It included scrubbing floors, walls, shelves, removing old bedding material and replacing with fresh materials.
•Health Checking - Checking that all animals were OK. Checking their eyes, ears, mouth, teeth, feet, claws etc. I did this at the end of every day to make sure all animals were OK for the night.
•Providing enrichment for all animals – Including boxes, branches, cardboard, wiring, food enrichment, balls, rope – basically anything I could find that was safe to use with animals!

Cara’s Puppy School, Stafford

I worked here voluntary for just over 3 months. I would have stayed helping for longer however other commitments had to be done unfortunately.
I loved every minute of it working here! I got to meet such lovely dog breeds – it was amazing! Two of my favourite dogs I worked with was a malamute and a Samoyed. Before working here I had never come across these breeds before so I think that’s why I fell in love with them so quickly!
I learnt so much from being here for 3 months – I included many of the lessons taught with my dog and had great results from it.
Duties here included:
•Helping set up the area for guests – chairs, displays, tables etc
•Watching & listening to each of Cara’s lessons.
•Getting involved in some of the lessons
•Answering guests questions
•Clearing away and cleaning when guests had gone.
