About Me/ Company
I’m Shaun
Ever since getting my first dog at the age of 13, I’d always dreamed of working with animals. Many years later, and following a successful career in Customer Service Management, I’m now pleased to say that that’s exactly what I do.
I look after people’s pets when they aren’t able to; whether that’s providing regular dog walks while their owners are out at work, or perhaps more short term help to step in when owners are unwell or perhaps you need someone to visit your pet while you’re away on holiday†Whatever the circumstances, I’m here to help.
Previous Experience
Before moving to Kent and setting up Helping Hound, I used a dog walking service in London to take our rescued greyhound, Benji, for walks each day. So I know what it’s like to be the customer and just how vital it is to be able to depend on your dog walker – and I never under estimate the trust that’s been placed in me while I’m looking after your pet.
Having owned dogs and cats since a young age, I have a great understanding of pet care and behaviour.
Qualifications & Training
I am a professional dog walker, registered with NarpsUK, the National Association of Pet Sitters and Dog Walkers.
In addition, I have also successfully completed the NarpsUK Pet Sitting & Dog Walking Business Course, which is a Lantra Awards approved training course. Study modules included:
Animal Law & Regulations
Nutrition, Diet & Grooming
Animal Healthcare
Pet First Aid
Included as part of my NarpsUK membership is access to a 24 hour pet health helpline line, providing me with access to expert medical advice about the pets in my care, a useful additional resource to supplement my own pet first aid knowledge.
If you’re trusting the keys to your home to someone to care for your pets while you’re not there, or to collect your dog for their daily walk, it’s essential to know that you’re not handing your keys (or your pet!) over to someone with a criminal record.
I applied for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check through Disclosure Scotland and the accompanying certificate shows that I have no criminal record. The DBS is a government agency formed by the merger of The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).
I take every care to make sure that nothing untoward ever happens. Customers of Helping Hound can also feel reassured that I have public liability cover as well as insurance cover for your pet in the event that they have an accident or injury whilst they’re in my care.
I’m always eager to grow my understanding and knowledge of pets, their care and behaviour. I’m currently adding to my understanding with two new courses through the British College of Canine Studies.

Other Services
Group walks, solo walks, regular walks or ad hoc walks. Helping Hound can tailor it’s services to suit your needs. At the end of each walk, if your dog’s been having fun in the mud or been caught in the rain, I’ll of course make sure that they are towelled down and any muddy paws wiped before they come home! I’ll also make sure that food and water are topped up if you’d like me to. Also at the end of each walk, I’ll leave behind a feedback card detailing how that days walk went, and if you’d like me to, I’ll share photos too so you have peace of mind that your best friend is in the best possible hands and enjoying their walks.
Going away on holiday and don’t want your cat, rabbit or other furry friend to be taken out of their familiar environment? No problem. Helping Hound will visit them in your home, making sure they’re well fed, have plenty of fresh water, a clean bed and, more importantly, lots of love and attention.
If your pet has an appointment at the vet or groomer’s, Helping Hound can take them there and return them home again afterwards. You’re more than welcome to come along too!
