About Me/ Company
Furry Friends Pet Services is a Brighton-based family business run by owners (and lifelong animal lovers) Sam and Billie-Jo.
We have been training and boarding dogs as Furry Friends Pet Services since 2007, but have recently left our secondary school teaching and NHS jobs to realise our dream of working with animals full-time.
Having tried to juggle pet care for our own dog for many years whilst working out of town, we understand how important it is to know that your beloved furry family member is properly looked after when you can’t be there.
Spending time with and caring for animals is our livelihood, so with Furry Friends Pet Services you can be sure that your pet is being loved and cared for as if he/she were our own.
Sam and Billie are both CRB (police) checked and in previous careers have worked extensively with children and vulnerable adults. Many of our services involve you entrusting us with a key to your home so it’s good to know it’s in safe hands.
Furry Friends Pet Services is our family business. We are not a franchise. We are committed to all pets’ welfare and strive to always provide a friendly, professional and reliable service. You can be assured you won’t receive texts from us at 10pm telling you we can’t take your dog out the next day. (Yes, this happened to us!)
How did Furry Friends Pet Services start?
Our own furry friend is a Boxer called Harvey. Harvey is a rescue dog and had never been acclimatised to farm animals, horses or cats when he came to live with us six years ago and vigorously tried to ‘defend’ us from tractors, golf buggies and even bicycles. Our struggle to find a dog walker able to commit to catering for his special needs whilst we were at work led us to found our own dog training and walking business.
Whilst Harvey will always have a bit of a problem with farm animals (hence the huge importance of good puppy socialisation/training, and great recall!) he’s now a cool, chilled dog at most other times and our whole family is happier as a result.
Previous Experience
We have 40 combined years’ experience of handling and living with dogs and other pets. We are confident with dogs of all shapes and sizes, having both grown up surrounded by canine companions from Chihuahuas to Akitas, and most breeds in between.
We have been training and boarding dogs as Furry Friends Pet Services since 2007 and have been walking dogs in Brighton's excellent countryside dog walking locations for many years. We finally went full time in July 2012.
Qualifications & Training
We are qualified dog trainers and behaviourists through the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers and provide ethical, modern, reward-based training and control methods.
We are fully insured and animal first aid trained in case of an emergency involving your pet. We drive professionally customised, air conditioned dog and pet-carrying vans for your pet’s safety and comfort.

What our customers say about us:
'Poppie'
“We were let down in the middle of August by relatives who were due to care for our eleven year old blind dog Poppie. Everyone we tried were fully booked, eventually Sam was recommend. Upon meeting up with Sam and his friendly companion (Harvey, a Boxer dog), he made us feel very relaxed, was not fazed to be looking after a blind dog.
“He took the time to make notes on Poppies likes and needs, made me feel welcome when I returned to discuss a little more on her special needs that we weren’t sure we mentioned.
While we where away Sam sent us emails on how she was getting on including photos that reassured us that she was happy. On our return we where met buy a happy lively Poppie.
“We cannot recommend Sam highly enough.â€
Julie and Steve, August 2012
'Marcel and Rose'
“Thank you so much for looking after Marcel and Rose while we were away.
“We will never send our cats to a cattery again!“
Julie McLaren, September 2012
'Charlie'
Sam looked after my dog at very short notice. My dog instantly felt comfortable in his company and he sat next to sam instead of me, which is unusual which clearly demonstrates that they are going to become firm friends. Sam will be looking after Charlie overnight this weekend and that is an indication to you that I am confident that my Charlie will be well looked after.

'Huxley'
Sam helped us out at very late notice and he was friendly, efficient and he bonded with our dog which was the main thing. I'd definitely recommend Furry Friends!
