About Me/ Company
"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."
It's a cliché, but it's the reason why I recently gave my office job up after twenty working to move up the ladder in journalism and PR.
I haven't got a string of dog-related qualifications. But having spent most of my 44 years living in a menagerie of beasts - furry, scaley and feathery - I've got tons of common sense and an empathy with animals, especially dogs.
I didn't set up the Furry Dogmother as a cash generator. But I'm hoping that when I'm up and running (4th May!) it will quickly become a happiness generator because what way to share your day than in the company of man's best friend?
I want my clients to greet me with the same enthusiasm that my dog walker experienced every day when she opened the front door to my lurcher, Roxy. That's what I hope to emulate now that I'm becoming a walker.
And I want my client's owners to have the absolute confidence that their dogs are being cared for by a reliable, trustworthy, dog-crazy walker!
Previous Experience
I've owned dogs pretty much all my life so have a great deal of experience in looking after them.
In 2007 I travelled to Romania to work in a dog shelter where I developed greater confidence in the practical skills required to care for dogs and puppies.
Since becoming the owner of a troubled rescue dog, I've also benefitted from the assistance of some highly qualified dog behaviourists who have put Roxy - and me! - on the right track.
So I have a good understanding of pack mentality, behaviour patterns, common issues - and basically what 'makes a dog tick'. Equally, I recognise they're all individual characters - and that's why it's a joy to get to the know them!
Qualifications & Training
None!
But I'm a qualified journalist to post graduate level so if all else fails and I can't get your dog to sit still, I can at least rattle off a good story! Usually sends my dog to sleep!
Meantime, if this leap of faith comes off and I can continue to resist the lure of the 9-5, I'm seriously considering applying to gain some professionally recognised qualifications.
Other Services
Not just dogs... I have owned a variety of animals including cats, rabbit, guinea pigs, rodents, fish, birds. I can look after your pets when you go away, if you have to go into hospital or simply need some respite.
I will shortly be able to offer a vet taxi service too. (summer 2013)
