About Me/ Company
The Pack Walker is a unique behavioural dog walking service in Surrey run by James Frost. A pack walk which
goes the extra mile to help bring fulfilment and balance to your dog’s life!
Providing much more than just physical exercise, pack walks are healthy psychological workouts too! On a trek
which lasts an average of five hours and can cover up to ten miles, new dogs quickly feel welcome and learn
to walk to heel, to sit and stay on command, to learn patience and become well-socialised, balanced members
of the pack.
With plenty of fun-filled challenges along the way designed to stretch their brains as well as their legs, this
is a hugely beneficial trekking adventure for any dog!
Why A Pack Walk?
Dogs are naturally very social, pack-orientated animals. Whether it is their own kind, or their ‘human pack’ in the
family home, dogs instinctively understand what it means to be a member of a close-knit social group. Still sharing
over 99% of the DNA of their ancestor, the grey wolf, a dog’s need for exercise, companionship and leadership is
essential for good physical and mental health.
With this in mind, I decided I wanted to offer the best possible dog-walking service in Surrey! I wanted to provide
not just physical exercise for a dog, but to help bring some healthy social and psychological fulfilment too.
Today, I take a pack of around six dogs on long treks lasting several hours, through beautiful royal parks and
countryside in Surrey. Away from roads, there are thousands of acres in which to run safely, swim and play
together, or areas where I just ask the dogs to walk calmly to heel next to me. Mindful that all dogs, particularly
the working breeds, need plenty of mental exercise as well as physical, this is a fun, invigorating walk designed
to help overcome phobias, to build self-confidence, to improve social skills and of course for the dogs just to have
a great day out with their mates!
Previous Experience
Many years ago I walked rescue dogs for the RSPCA in my spare time. Then I started walking friends' dogs (for free) in my spare time. Then word spread about the improvement in the behaviour of the dogs that I was walking and so friends of friends became customers and it grew into a small business.
Today I walk a pack of around six dogs at a time and we walk for about 5 hours through thousands of acres of royal parks and national trust land covering up to 10 miles. This can include running, swimming, resting, eating, training exercises, search and find games - lots and lots of mental stimulation which is especially important to drain frustration that may have built up at home. It's a very therapeutic trekking adventure!
