About Me/ Company
Hello! I'm Claudia, a nature and animal lover from Devon! Animals have always been my passion and over the years I have worked with many different species, including dogs, and gained so much experience and knowledge! Throughout my childhood and even now, my family have had many pets including guinea pigs, chickens and ducks, a snake and a gecko and now we have 3 dogs and a horse!
Previous Experience
Working in rescue:In March 2020 I came back from Cyprus where I volunteered at an animal sanctuary with rescue dogs, cats and horses and helped out with their work, not just with the feeding and cleaning but also the rescue and rehabilitation. I helped to take care of around 40 dogs of all sizes and ages, 16 horses and lots of other animals and even went out on a couple of rescues, which were eye-opening. This was an amazing experience and I returned in October for 3 months to help out again and gain even more experience working with dogs in a pack with nearly 70 dogs this time. Two of the rescue dogs I worked with are actually members of my family and are now living a new life here in Devon! During this trip I went on a rescue mission to Greece with some of the team and flew stray dogs back to Cyprus. I'm so grateful that they trusted me enough to fly 8 dogs home by myself in order to get them to new homes safely. During this trip I got to be a part of so much and I have taken away a lot of new knowledge and experience and the sanctuary feels like a second home with animals that I cared for as if they were my own.
Professional animal work: I am passionate and knowledgeable about animals and until recently, I worked as an animal keeper in a theme park and I loved my job. I was in this job for 2 years and in that time I gained a wealth of knowledge and skills that are now extremely valuable to me. The animals I worked with were a mixture of exotics and domestics and included; rabbits, monkeys, crocodiles, alpaca, wallaby, emu, horses and so much more. It was very enriching for me as I was working with different species every day and learned so many different animal care techniques and I was required to educate the public on the animals and why they are so important. Working with this variety of species full-time was a lot of hard work and long hours but I loved it and it was so rewarding. I am not afraid of hard work and getting dirty. It has been a huge part of my life! Apart from the physical work, I also worked to educate the public about the animals and what makes them so important. Every day I did animal handling sessions where for a short time, people were able to get close to some animals. Also, I had to do 'animal keeper days' where I would privately spend time with the same people for a whole day teaching them some animal care and also to educate them. There are a lot of people that are now happy to hold a cockroach or muck out a stable that couldn't before! :D
