Hi! My name is Sherry Lemke and I am the founder of Dogs Den Daycare. I grew up in Northern Ontario, Canada and was surrounded by dogs my entire life. Although I spent the majority of my life caring for my dogs (Spok a dedicated & loyal pure breed German Shepherd, Luba a loving & tender rescue dog of which his breed was unknown, Ansel a curious & light hearted pure breed Siberian Husky and my baby Orien, who was convinced he was human, a rescue dog consisting of part Labrador & Husky) it wasn’t until I moved to London, United Kingdom over 9 years ago that I realised my true passion was to work with dogs.
Previous Experience
Following a successful career in recruitment & human resource management over the past 10 years, Sherry's journey began in 2007 when she signed up to the Animal Care College to study the fundamentals to Understanding The Family Dog. This course added to her self taught knowledge of dog behaviour & caring for a family dog by providing the basic understanding to the evolution of the dog, the needs for different breeds, how theories have changed, natural behaviours of the dog, the dog’s senses, communication, basic training, normal & abnormal behaviour, as well as health diets and the effects it has on dogs.
Qualifications & Training
Sherry is proud to admit that she received a distinction in her course and was encouraged to further her knowledge in canine psychology. Canine psychology has provided her with sound concepts & understanding of natural behaviours from pack rules to the more modern view around early learning, positive reinforcement and fun & games. It has helped her understand how early influences, stages of puppyhood, health effects and human communication vs. dog communication can affect a dogs behviour and so she has now made it her mission to educate owners and help deepen the relationship they have with their dogs through training, interactive exercise & play as well as communication.
Sherry intends to continue with extensive personal development in canine psychology and continue to study through books, dvd’s of all the latest dog training techniques, seminars and online classes, so that she may bring you and your lovable companion innovative ways to spend your time together and learn from each other.

Other Services
Training is a fundamental part of Dogs Den Daycare's proposition to help owners continue to deepen the relationship with their pet. Having owned a number of dogs and been training in Dog Psychology, Sherry truly understands the challenges that owners face with their pets, particularly as dogs move through the various lifestages and the different characteristics that varying breeds can bring.
Our philosophy is that training is a blend of 'art and science' and therefore we use a combination of proven training techniques and education as well as 'hands on' experience and gut instinct to develop tailored training programmes that deliver clear benefits and help owners acheive their goals.
Dogs Den training works around 6 core principles:
1. Tailoring training to you and your dog - All dogs differ and in fact so do their owners! For this reason, all training programmes are bespoke to you and your dog and this can only be achieved through an initial face-to-face consultation, where we get to meet you and your pet. From here we can formulate a training programme that is effective and helps the owner achieve their goals. Quite often significant changes can be made within an initial session and often just some helpful hints and tips can do the trick.
2. Training begins in the home - Training begins in the home because this is where your dog is most comfortable and confident. In later stages of training, we will introduce sessions in a dog park to help you teach your dog to negotiate the types of obstacles he or she might encounter when out and about and to ensure that owners can really enjoy those cherished Sunday morning strolls on the common.
3. YOU are your dog’s motivation - If your dog sees YOU as his or her greatest reward, then 70% of the training process is resolved. If your dog cherishes being with you and pleasing you more than anything else in the world, then you have established a very strong motivation. It is easy to assume that dogs naturally want to please their owners ruled by their own self-serving instincts, but this is not always the case. The truth is that this connection between you and your dog must be earned, taught and maintained throughout the course of your dogs' life.
4. Communication is key - The remaining 30% of the process involves you learning a new language! Learning the right signals and cues for your individual dog takes practice and knowing just one method of "reaching" your dog won't work, so many different methods must be utilised in finding the best way to clearly communicate your wishes to your dog. If your dog is confused about what you want, there's no way either of you can win. Therefore, we will work with you to discover the signals and cues that your dog responds to and provide you with a training agenda that is easy to follow, even when we're not around.
5. Positive Reinforcement - The 'science' part of Dogs’ Den Training is based on tried and tested 'positive-reinforcement' philosophies and methodologies such as clicker and reward based training, which has proven to be an effective training technique and deliver significant benefits. It also brings a very positive and fun element to the training for both dogs and their owners.
6. We are here for you - Truly effective training requires support and Dogs’ Den is committed to providing exceptional service and exceeding owners expectations. We always aim high and deliver what is promised, while treating you and your pet with openness, honesty, respect and patience. Afterall, we understand that you are all mastering a new skill! Even after the lesson is over, you are not alone as we are on the end of a telephone waiting to answer any of your questions. Dogs are our passion and that’s why we're here and we look forward to working with you!
