About Julie
My love of animals has been with me my whole life. One of my earliest memories concerns a local stray dog who'd been hanging around my friends & I when one of the children threatened to poison him. I was 3 years old and I don't remember what the dog was called or looked like but I do recall the strong feelings of protectiveness and worry that he would come to some harm. As a child we had budgies called Joey & Sparky and a beautfiul mongrel called Rebel who developed & strengthed my bond with the canine species. I remember vidily the day we rehomed Rebel and also, 10 years later the day I had to say goodbye. When I left home the first thing I did was get a dog of my own. She was called Bonnie and I rescued her from a shelter unware that she was fighting a battle with distemper at 5 weeks old. I was told she would probably die within a couple of days, but Bonnie & I had other ideas. The hours of intensive nursing care paid off and we became like two sides of a coin. She was my constant & never left my side until the day she died at 13 years of age. By this time I'd rescued another dog called Shelby, cats named Abby, Tilly, Charlie & Tabitha, and a rabbit called Arnold who created in me a love of the bunny species and was the first of many. I worked as a nurse and in my spare time I became very involved with a local animal welfare organisation. I fostered animals, did rehoming checks and spent many a weekend fundraising at fairs & charity events. I currently fundraise for a wildlife sanctuary which is a cause very close to my heart & I've been privileged to spend time in close proximity to foxes, badgers & birds of prey.At present I have only 1 dog called Jet as I sadly lost my dachshund Harry a few weeks ago. He was diagnosed with cancer just before Christmas. Although we were very sad we made a decision to make the most of our last days & weeks together. Harry is my badgerdog (The name Dachshund means badgerdog in German)
About Sharon
Hi, my name is Sharon and I helped set up Badgerdog Buddies with my partner Julie. I have known Julie for some years now and something we have in common is our love for our animals and our jobs in the caring profession. Julie and I have talked about setting up a pet care services business often over the years. These conversations usually took place on a morning dog walk while our canine friends ran and played together. Badgerdog buddies is the realisation of an ambition to work with animals after 10 years as a qualified Mental Health Nurse. I have owned most types of pets since childhood from fish, rabbits, mice, tortoise, and hamsters to bigger animals like dogs and horses. My current animal family is Harley and Levi who are German Pointer dogs, Star our Welsh Section pony and our goldfish. This has given me lots of great experience, love and empathy with all animals. The only downside of having all these animals has made me endure tearful farewells when our pets have passed away, however, they all gave me some wonderful memories.I enjoy walking my dogs in my local area, beach, parkland and countryside. The Northumberland area is rich in places that dogs just adore exploring.I look forward to getting to know your beloved pets.
