As a child I was responsible for the welfare of household pets and was intrigued by their husbandry and care. From then on I have owned and looked after a variety of animals including hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, birds, rabbits, fish, a cat and rats. This has provided me with a wide knowledge on different animals and an ever growing love for animals and their welfare. At school I found Biology fascinating, understanding the immune response in animals and especially enjoyed animal physiology.
During my voluntary work at Rescuers Wildlife Sanctuary I was able to maintain the welfare and the care of many different types of rescued animals. I was able to work with animals such as dogs, cattle, sheep, pigs, rabbits, hedgehogs, foxes, goats, birds of prey, squirrels, poultry and more. This placement enabled me to improve my organizational skills. Being responsible for sorting feeds, I managed my time ensuring all animals were cared for appropriately.
I developed animal handling skills from both having animals from a young age and from handling animals at college especially the bearded dragon as I had never handled a reptile before having the opportunity to on my college course. On my day working as a volunteer at Remus horse sanctuary I gained important knowledge on common health issues affecting horses and the amount of physical labor needed to look after horses.
I was responsible for walking my aunts dogs and walked dogs for a lady who was on holiday, whos dogs were disabled. One being blind and one being deaf.
