About Me/ Company

I’ve always adored animals and had a desire to care for them. One of my earliest memories is going out to the garden with my Granny to leave food out for a family of hedgehogs! After working in two corporate roles I moved into the charity sector and worked for an animal assistance charity as a community fundraiser. I met some remarkable people and incredible dogs. This was a maternity cover contract and I wanted to set up a business working with animalsâ€this is where the Princes Trust helped! I went on course and work with an experienced business mentor. I feel very proud and privileged to have had the Princes Trust support and my Mum and I, due to the success of launching Albany Pet Services were invited to a garden party Buckingham Palace to celebrate Prince Charles’ 70th Birthday Patronage.

I’m particularly interested in animal body language, reactive pets caring for elderly pets. I’m a strong advocate of scientifically proven force-free pet care and training and am a member of the Pet Professional Guild. I am committed to continual professional development and have completed many courses. I volunteer for the Blue Cross education team and give free talks across Hertfordshire ranging from how to look after different pets on how to stay safe around dogs. I’ve also volunteered on the Blue Cross’ Pet Bereavement support line – losing a pet can mean losing a best friend. As a volunteer I listen to people and provide emotional support on the phone who have experienced pet loss.

Our achievements
I was thrilled to win a ‘Woo Hoo’ achievement award’ – recognition for my achievements in the St Albans Business community.
My client nominated me in the ‘dream achiever’ category for accomplishing my dream of caring for animals, and the care I showed to her dog Bud and the help I gave to her elderly Mum as Bud was staying with her, whilst his human had a well-earned break!

We were thrilled that Albany Pet Services was nominated as ‘best dog walking and pet sitting business’ in Global Health and Pharma’s 2018 awards. I’m really proud after 3 years in business to have reached the final of the Best Business Women Awards in the Best Young Entrepreneur category.

As we’ve learnt more and more about wonderful pets and their needs we have completed a canine coaching diploma and have now have expanded our services into dog training and puppy training.

Qualifications & Training

Completed Courses
We are committed to expanding our knowledge of companion animals – they enrich our lives in so many different ways and they give us unconditional love and make us laugh! We offer your pet the best level of care by understanding them as animals as well as individuals.

IMDT’s Perfect Puppy Course
A course that highlighted the building blocks for life with a new puppy and puppy behaviour such as chewing, toilet habits, playtime, enrichment and how puppies are learning all the time.

Animal Aiders First Aid Course
I’ve completed a first aid course which includes how to react to events such as burns and choking. I also carry a first aid kit in my car.

Blue Cross Pet Bereavement Course
Losing a pet can mean losing a best friend. As a volunteer I listen to people and provide emotional support on the phone who have experienced pet loss from bereavement, family break up’s and financial issues. Unfortunately, losing a pet often results in disenfranchised grief, as people don’t feel that they have anyone to talk to who will understand the magnitude of their loss.

Blue Cross Educational Talks
The Blue Cross education team give free talks across Hertfordshire promoting responsible pet ownership from hamsters to horses. The talks range from how to look after different pets on how to stay safe around dogs. Over 200,000 people are involved in dog attacks each year, most of them children. By visiting primary schools to teach children about dog body language and how to behave around dogs we are making a difference.

Canine Principles, Canine Coaching Diploma (ongoing)
This course is packed full with scientific dog behaviour knowledge and conscientious canine awareness about how dogs learn and how we can train them.

Compass Education, the Animal Behaviour Distance Learning College, Professional Dog Walking Diploma
This diploma course covers 6 modules: canine anatomy, first aid, form and function, body language, law and aggression. I have a personal tutor who I submit my coursework to. The canine anatomy module focused on spotting signs such as canine injuries such luxating patella’s. For the form and function module I submitted a piece of work on everything there is to know about the Shetland Sheepdog.

Pet and House Sitting Course
This course highlighted house security and looking after a number of pets from puppies to chinchillas.

The Princes Trust Enterprise Course
On the start of my Princes Trust business journey, I completed an enterprise course, which covered skills such as sales and marketing. I’m very lucky to work with an experienced business mentor who I meet up with regularly to discuss my business goals and achievements.

Sarah Whitehead’s Learn to Talk Dog Course
Sarah Whitehead (MSc) runs the Clever Dog Company. This course covers canine facial expression and body language – it’s fascinating! It’s provided me with a fantastic overview of how dogs communicate their feelings in different situations and how to spot when a dog feels uncomfortable. It’s been incredibly helpful on walks with dogs. I’ve learnt how to spot the four f’s of canine stress – fight, freeze, flee and fiddle about.

Chirag Patel’s Canine Body Language Seminar
Chirag Patel (Bsc) of Domesticated Manners highlighted canine etiquette between dogs and us and what dogs are trying to display though sometimes subtle movements.

Victoria Stilwell’s Inside Your Dogs Mind Course
This course explored how dogs think, feel, learn and process the world around them and how we can apply this knowledge when sharing the world with them. It covers breakthroughs in canine cognitive science, canine ethology & the canine brain, measuring your dog’s intelligence, dogs and emotions, how dogs learn and cognition games and exercises for your dog.

Grisha’s Stewart’s Behavioural Adjustment 2.0 Training Course
BAT℠ helps animals gain confidence and social skills. BAT is a natural method that creates an emotionally safe interaction with minimal intrusion. BAT is especially useful when the “triggers” for frustration, aggression, or fear are living beings, for example when dogs bark at or bite other dogs or people. The course gave me some excellent lead techniques to use when walking reactive dogs and tips to get out of situations when off lead dog’s are approaching us.

Susan Friedman’s Living and Learning with animals 3 day Seminar
Living and Learning with Animals is designed to provide a comprehensive and cohesive understanding of applied behavior analysis to improve the lives of all learners in our care. The weekend seminar includes over 200 instructional slides, video examples, and support materials. Functional Assessment; The Commitment to Ethical Practice; The Case for Empowerment; Procedures for Changing Respondent Behavior; Procedures for Changing Operant Behavior; and, Designing Behavior Change Plans. As a result of attending this seminar, participants will be better able to teach learners effectively and humanely.
