About Me/ Company

Hi, my name is Kate Sumner and as far as I can remember I have always loved animals as well as loving dogs. I have been involved with welfare and rescue groups for abused bull terriers and other bull breeds for around 20 years, along with rehabilitating and moderating their behavior for future rehoming and a better quality of life. I have also taken in many 'bullies' myself as pets. I currently work on a voluntary basis at a local rescue/boarding kennels, along with being a freelance cartoonist and designer. I pride myself on being hard working, honest, with a large dose of good humour!. Despite having qualifications on paper I still believe that good old fashioned experience wins every time. I like to think I learn something new every day and that one cannot go by the 'text book' on every occassion as dogs are individuals and complex like us. Patience, kindness and understanding are paramount. I have also had many other pets, and especially love exotics.

Previous Experience

Experienced in animal husbandry and care, experience of zoological and farm environments, along with around 20 years experience of working with abused bull breeds ie staffies, bull terriers, pit bulls etc. I am (as mentioned above) working voluntarily at a local kennel here in Cornwall which involves handling dogs of varying breeds, assessing them, cleaning the facilities to maintain required standards of cleanliness and liasing with the public.

Bull breed welfare and rehabilitation, BSc in Animal science, Introduction to canine psychology level 1 and 2.

Other Services

I am very flexible and happy to consider all types of work involving dogs and or other pets. I do not object to domestic and cleaning work that may be required either. Also, I was a chef for a number of years and would be more than happy to prepare a meal for returning holiday makers.
